When my son Spencer entered special education, I sat at the IEP meeting table trying to understand what was happening while everyone else seemed to control the conversation, tell me what was best for my son, and influence the decisions being made about his education. I felt overwhelmed, bullied, and unsure of how the process worked. Most of all, I was afraid I might agree to decisions that weren’t truly right for him. I questioned everything I heard, yet I didn’t know enough about the IEP document or the IEP meeting process to confidently advocate for my son. I left that meeting knowing one thing for certain: I needed help.
Today, I’m here to give you the help I needed then.
