When Spencer turned three years old, we began a journey I never expected to take, which included my first IEP meeting. I was his mom. I knew him better than anyone at that IEP meeting, but when it came to the IEP meeting process, everybody seemed to speak a different language, and I didn't understand! I quickly learned that loving your child fiercely and understanding the special education system are two very different things. If I was going to be the advocate Spencer needed, I had a lot to learn.

My IEP Story
Started With My Son, Spencer.
When Spencer turned three years old, we began a journey I never expected to take, which included my first IEP meeting. I was his mom. I knew him better than anyone at that IEP meeting, but when it came to the IEP meeting process, everybody seemed to speak a language I didn't understand. I learned quickly that loving your child fiercely and understanding the special education system are two very different things. If I was going to be the advocate Spencer needed, I had a lot to learn.
I didn't set out to become
An "IEP Expert." I was trying to help my own child.
I sat in those early IEP meetings feeling confused, intimidated, and overwhelmed. I didn't know what questions to ask or what my options were. I didn't understand what having autism meant for my son. All I knew was that my child needed support and therapy, and I was determined to make sure he got the help he needed. I left every one of those meetings in tears and anxiety, feeling in my gut that something wasn't right for my son. I spent countless hours and sleepless nights researching, asking questions, and learning everything I could. What I discovered could change everything- not just for Spencer, but for thousands of families like ours.
I realized parents needed their own system to prepare for the IEP meeting. And it turns out that a few years later, I created the very system that parents needed.
